We got mad at the big nutrition app.
So we built the fix.

Not a pivot. Not a rebrand. A genuine "I'm done paying for this" moment — and the app that came out of it.

The app that should have existed already.

Here's what happened.

The founder was a power user. Tracked everything — nutrition, workouts, the whole stack. Then the big nutrition app he'd been paying for kept raising the price on him. Features he used kept disappearing behind paywalls. And the worst part: when he stopped paying for the pro plan, his data was gone. Years of logs. Gone.

That's not a product problem. That's a hostage situation.

But the data-hostage thing wasn't even the biggest frustration. The biggest frustration was simpler: his friends couldn't see anything he was doing. They couldn't hold each other accountable. They couldn't see each other's stats, PRs, or meal plans. The social layer — the thing that actually makes fitness stick — didn't exist.

So he looked at the alternatives. The macro trackers. The lifting logs. The calorie counters. The AI photo apps. All of them built around the individual. None of them built around the crew. They were creating copycat solutions instead of addressing the actual problem.

The actual problem: nobody knows when you skip, so you skip.

"I got really mad at the big nutrition app I'd been paying for. They kept increasing the price, I wasn't able to export my data, and every time you stopped paying for the pro plan you would lose all your data. They kept locking features behind paywalls. So I got mad and decided to build it myself."

That's GainzTea. Built from a real frustration, by someone who lived the problem. Not a startup pivot. Not a VC thesis. A founder who got burned and built the app he actually wanted.

Fitness is a lifestyle — and it's social.

1

Accountability beats discipline.

Willpower runs out. Friends don't. The most important thing in fitness isn't the right program or the perfect macro split — it's having people who notice when you skip. That's what makes tracking actually work.

2

Fitness people are competitive people.

We like to talk, interact, and compete. Every fitness app pretends we train alone. We don't. We train with crews, we compare PRs, we trash-talk each other into showing up. GainzTea is built for how fitness actually works.

3

You can still eat and drink what you like.

As long as you work it into your macros. No forbidden foods. No guilt. No red numbers scolding you for a burger. The philosophy is simple: track honestly, eat what you enjoy, and let the data guide you — not shame you.

4

Slow and steady wins the race.

No magic pills here. No "get shredded in 30 days." Fitness is a lifestyle, not a one-time thing. Consistent tracking — even imperfect tracking — beats the perfect plan you quit after two weeks.

5

Your data is yours.

Always. No feature ransom. No "upgrade to see your own stats." No data deleted when you stop paying. We built this because we got burned by the opposite — we're not going to do it to you.

The app is step one.

GainzTea is a fitness brand — not just an app. The 12-month mission is to launch, build a community of people who actually hold each other accountable, and prove that the social × all-in-one quadrant is the right bet.

After that: events. Fitness challenges with real people. A YouTube channel. A community that competes, supports, and shows up for each other — online and off.

The app is how it starts. The crew is how it grows.

"I'm trying to build a fitness brand — an all-in-one company. I want to do events eventually — like the Spartan race, except fitness."

📱
Step 1: Launch the app
1,000 active users, crews tracking together
🎥
Step 2: Build the content
YouTube, challenges, community
🏁
Step 3: Real-world events
Fitness events, crew competitions

We built this because we got burned. We won't burn you.

🚫
No feature paywalls

The accountability loop is free. Your friends can see your stats without anyone paying for "Premium."

🔓
No data hostage

Your logs, your PRs, your history — yours. Always exportable. Never deleted when you stop paying.

💰
No price hikes

We're not going to build your habit and then charge you to keep it.

💊
No magic pills

No "lose X lbs in X days." No shortcuts. Just tracking, accountability, and the crew that keeps you honest.

🔨
No copycat features

We're not building what everyone else already built. We're building the thing nobody built: fitness tracking your crew can see.

Built to last, not to impress a pitch deck.

GainzTea runs on Flutter (iOS + Android from one codebase) and Firebase. The AI food photo analysis uses Google Gemini 1.5 Flash. Nutrition label OCR runs on-device with ML Kit. Push notifications are wired for group activity.

It's a real product, built by a real developer, solving a real problem. Not a mockup. Not a landing page with a roadmap. The app exists — we're finishing it.
